Meet Dr. Bogdan Popa

I am originally from Romania, Eastern Europe and was fortunate to be able to emigrate to the United States as a teenager with my family. A few years later I enrolled at Georgetown University Medical school where I obtained my medical doctor degree. I always wanted to be an anesthesiologist, so immediately after medical school I spent the next 4 years in an anesthesiology residency at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA. I still love anesthesiology and continue to practice it to this day. Soon after I turned 40 I had a sudden health challenge and I was fortunate to be treated by a naturopathic doctor back to full health. That is when I found my second (professional) love: natural and integrative medicine, in other words treating the "root cause" of a medical problem because it helped me so much in my own journey. In 2016 I became an Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) Certified Practitioner.

How Niacinex Came About

My own health experience came into play here again. My cholesterol levels were always a little bit high, and as I age they seem to (slowly) go higher. I didn't want to start taking a "statin" prescription drug after seeing my dad struggle with the muscle aches that ensued after he started taking one of the medications in this class. I knew that Niacin (vitamin B3) in the form of nicotinic acid was scientifically backed by large scale double blinded studies and shown to help with total as well as HDL and LDL cholesterol, but I really could not stand the skin flush that I got from taking the high therapeutic doses of niacin needed to make a difference. I know there are so many people out there in the same situation as me, so I worked with supplement manufacturers to develop a gradual release high dose nicotinic acid (the form of vitamin B3 that works on cholesterol) that minimizes or eliminates skin flushing. I am happy to say that Niacinex works for me and I take it every day!
